Services
Garden design and planting
I design naturalistic, beautiful, creative, practical spaces that are havens for wildlife. I can design you a whole garden or a small area.
-
Includes a discussion to find out what you want from your garden, a site survey to understand the soil and site conditions. I will then create designs with detailed list of the plants. Next step is putting the plan into action and planting it up.
Ideas for wildlife friendly gardens
There are many things you can do to make your garden more wildlife friendly but it can be hard to know where to start. I provide ideas and suggestions on how to provide resources for pollinators, create habitats and provide plant lists all related to your garden.
-
How it works: We start with a garden visit to discuss your garden, what it’s currently like, how you use it, what you would like from it and for me to conduct a site survey. I then create a report with ideas, suggestions and resources within 2 weeks.
Garden maintenance
Wildlife friendly garden maintenance using sustainable ecological methods that work in partnership with nature. Including caring for your plants, pruning, mulching and weeding. Treading lightly to meet present needs and preserve the planet for future generations.
-
Reducing use of natural resources by harvesting rainwater and composting. Using natural and sympathetic methods of pest management, such as encouraging beneficial predators and using biological controls rather than chemicals. Looking after the soil fertility by returning material back to the soil using the chop and drop method of cutting back and mulching.
Growing food
Enabling you to eat more nutritious, seasonal food from your own garden. I can set up and maintain a vegetable growing area or find space for edible plants amongst flowers and shrubs for a more holistic, natural way of growing food.
-
I take inspiration from forest gardening principles to design and plant combinations of perennial edible plants, annual vegetables and ornamentals to create functional beautiful spaces.
Growing cut flowers
Nothing better than being able to bring blooms grown in your own garden into the house. I can design and plant your garden to include a range of flowers that with give you seasonal, sustainable flowers to brighten your home.
-
The global cut flower industry contributes to environmental destruction and biodiversity loss. We can mitigate this by using what we grow at home instead of buying bunches wrapped in plastic that have been flown halfway across the world and raised in energy intensive ways.
Create and maintain meadows
Design, create and maintain a variety of meadow styles.
-
From bright, fun annual mixes that add colour and food for pollinators. To longer term perennial meadows of native grasses and wildflowers which create valuable habitats for a variety of wildlife. I can find more environmentally friendly alternatives to closely mown lawns such as leaving areas of longer grass or using low growing, hardy alternatives to grass.

We booked Sara to do a bit of a makeover on our garden. Sara came and worked extremely hard each week planting, clearing and weeding. She made another two borders and filled them with appropriate plants. Sara is very knowledgeable about plants and extremely passionate about wildlife friendly gardening which is very important to me. Our garden was transformed from a plain lawn to an actual proper garden in quite a short period of time. Sara works extremely hard and is fast and efficient. She is also a very pleasant and friendly person. We would highly recommend her services.
